Hi Geoff,

Our A/C maintenance people had the approach of adding stuff that should block
the leaks, testing it was leak free, and then recharging it. They could order
the specialist refrigerant in small enough quantities that it was worthwhile,
and cheaper than Bruker. It was a while ago though.

I don't rate the BCU IIs at all.

PS we are currently down to one MAS probe (400MHz), and might need to beg/borrow
one while repairs are in done. Do you have anything suitable? something 3-4 mm
and dual resonance (31P capable) would be ideal. Obviously you may be reticent
given the current track record!

I've spoken to our usual A/C maintenance contractors and as its a sealed unit,
current UK rules mean that if the refrigerant has escaped, they can't recharge
it until they've tracked down the leak, and that is not necessarily
straightforward to do. Also, the R508B in the lowest temperature stage is a
specialist gas that they don't have lying around, so I'd have to find specialist
contractors for that anyway.

I suspect this is beyond DIYable but thought it was worth a try anyway…
