Did she have DSS or TMSP in the D2O - you need to hunt for a zero reference
peak and reference the spectrum after the fact. I do a lot of hydrolysis
experiments where I add 100uL of 98% D2SO4 to a sample dissolved in 650 uL
of D2O - the HOD peak shifts into the low 6. something ppms - the 60% D2SO4
solvent she is using will shift that HOD peak (that you are locking on) to
much higher ppm's (perhaps 9 ppm) thus the reason for the aromatics being
at 2-3 ppm after your current lock set the HOD peak to 4.8 ppm.
