You say it freezes at the getprosol step? This reminds me of an issue
we ran into several years ago where the antivirus software was interfering
with topshim when it tried to read/write files. When topshim fails like
that it leaves the BSMS in a locked state that makes certain things impossible
unless you either reboot, or unless you know the trick to get it out.
The issue we saw was with some of the heuristic features of Symantec/Mcafee
antivirus software. It appeared to be slowing down certain communication
processes just enough to cause things to fail. And topshim pretty consistently
failed at the getprosol step.
To troubleshoot that you might completely disable any antivirus software that might
be running and see if that makes any difference. I might be completely wrong however.
Also, if the BSMS is locked, you can unlock it by opening the bsms gui (bsmsdisp is
the command, or click the icon above the acquisition window in topspin) and go to
the service tab. Put in the super secret password 1964 and it will pop up
some more buttons--click the "unlock bsms" button and that will release the BSMS
from the locked state that a failed topshim run leaves it in.
That's my first instinct. There are other things that you could try--
updating or reinstalling topspin for example. And if you don't have any
antivirus software running, for example, those might be my next options.
