Hi Rajan,

Many thanks for the suggestions. I will download wireshark and have a look.

I bypassed the router and have the CCU directly wired to the onboard NIC.
I’ve tried standard ethernet and crossover cables with the same
behavior.

The failure happened during a run in automation, so very little likelihood
of anything being set improperly. I think we have a hardware failure, just
not sure on which side (workstation, CCU, or downstream). The connection
is on the motherboard so I am investigating switching to a PCI NIC card and
seeing if that helps.

All the best,
Rick

Hi Rick

Here are my 2c worth. (I hope you have not been using any ethernet hub
between the workstation and the CCU/11 i.e. it is a direct connection i.e.
so-called 'eth1' connection). Other than that using a router or hub to
connect to the internet (so-called 'eth0' in old parlance) doesn't have
any bearing on the PC to CCU/11 connectivity.

  * You can use 'wireshark', which is a open source packet sniffer, to
look at the TCP/IP communication packets between the two ends. This will help
to see till what stage the diskless download and bootup proceeds.

  * If it was all working OK before, what changed now ? Was it a software
upgrade i.e. OS or other ? Can you fall back to the older version and try ?

  * I can speak mostly for Linux systems and can you check if 'bootparamd'
is running on your workstation when you try to boot up the CCU/11 ?

  * Not that the following will change spontaneously, but, can you make
sure that the NFS v2 is active on your workstation ?

The wireshark dump will give a definitive foot print of how far you are able
to proceed.

Good Luck and Best Regards
Rajan

Dear Spinlanders,

We recently had our Avance II 400 lose communication with our workstation.
On power up, we get a few LINK and STATUS LEDs on the CCU flashing but then
nothing, leaving the first and second STATUS LEDs lit and the second LED
on the LINK lit. Resetting the CCU gives no changes except on the STATUS
which settles into the same first and second LEDs lit. The LEDs on the
workstation ethernet port are green and amber/yellow and static, so we
have power and connection but no communication.

Does anyone know the normal sequence of LEDs that should light up for both =
the LINK and STATUS LEDs? Is there a reference for the indicators?

We have so far swapped the CCU and PSM2 as well as bypassed the router plugged
in directly to the workstation.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

All the best,
Rick
