 Hi all,

Just my $0.02--the GAB/2 isn't smart enough to check the gradient circuit in
the probe--if it is going into an error state when you're not pulsing it
sounds like the GAB is bad.  You can check the gradient in the probe--
if it's a normal room temperature probe you can check the resistance between
pins A-B and it should be around 1.5 ohms.  And check the resistance to
ground--either from A or B to the center pin of the connector or to the shell
around the connector, and if it's not extremely high (it might take a few
seconds to ramp up to its final value) then there could be an issue with
the gradient shorting to ground.  I suspect you'll find that's not the case.

I suppose I could imagine some pathological case where something was shorting
to the probe and creating a voltage somewhere there shouldn't be one--you
could always try resetting the GAB with the gradient cable disconnected and
confirming that it behaves the same.

Cheers,Mike

 Hello,

I had also troubles with the GAB board.

ha -> bsms -> gradients -> Gradient Amplifier Control

there on the control panel - are some buttons. There you can set the Gradient unit ON or OFF.
On the next page - you can do some diagnostic tests and Resets.

This helped me a lot. Or you can update the firmware for the GAB-Boad.
Via the BSMS Service Tools you can look, if the whole BSMS rack is OK or something is old.
Also you can easily access there the Firmware update routine for the GAB-Board, too.

gab2_fpga_00-013-02.bit is my actual firmware for the GAB/2 board.

The worst case is - the gradient is broken in the probe. There is a big round plug
outside of the probe.

This is the gradient plug. There you can easily measure the contacts through the
gradient. There should be a stable resistive value.

If it is broker - there are all contacts at 0 Ohm.

Yours sincerely,

Ulrich Haunz
