Hi Mike,
We tried using the dry gas, but unfortunately, the valve did not recover. We
have a sample case for automation. When we try to do a sample injection,
we encounter a BSMS error saying: "Lift command is not handled since the
emergency lift is active," even though the emergency lift is not actually
active.
I think this error is related to the SPB board, especially if moisture has
gotten into it. To solve both of these issues, I believe we should replace
the SPB board.
Let me know your thoughts or if you have any further recommendations.

I can only speak about how we do things in the americas--I don't know how the
service group you're dealing with does things. I do have a few things I
can say:
Regarding the VTU--one of the most frequent causes for SPB damage we see is
moisture in the pressurized gas supply. You might have a look at that. You
could try disconnecting the VT output of the VTU and blowing dry gas through
it for a while to see if the valve recovers. Sometimes drying them out helps,
sometimes it doesn't. If that doesn't help, the reasonable solution is to
exchange the board for a new one from Bruker. In this case I don't see having
a faulty board as a spare as being beneficial--I think the exchange is the
right way to go.
Regarding the automation, it's hard to make suggestions without knowing what
the symptoms are and what sample changer you have. The sample changer should
really have no connection to the SPB and the two should not cause each other
not to function. I mean, if the VT gas stops flowing, it will turn off the
heater, but that shouldn't make any difference in whether the sample changer
can insert the sample or not. Having said that, if your air supply is
significantly contaminated, depending on the sample changer you have, that
could get gunked up as well.
Regarding the faulty boards, it kind of depends on you. I'm going to say your
best alternative is probably going to be to scrap them because you don't want
to risk trying to repair them and then having them fail in the console and
potentially causing more damage.
