Several reasons for using Linux:
1. The IT department generally ignores Linux (no auto-updates, no random
reboots, no remote management, no restrictions on system administration).
2. Stability (once a Linux system is configured and operational, it tends
to stay that way).
3. Shell scripts can do so many things.
4. Linux is immune to Windows viruses.
5. Windows-familiar users are less likely to use the spectrometer host
computer for non-NMR related activities.
