Re: [AMMRL] Bruker: Windows vs. Linux? #poll-notice

Hi, Ken:

[Yes, I DID see the comment to use Groups.io (for which I had to make a new
login -- wasn't using it) for the survey, but it honestly should be more nuanced
so, like a few others, I am responding here....

I am filling our the survey truthfully but, honestly, we do NOT like our NMRs'
running in Windows. In fact, given that the control of the console has now
been fully abstracted (to just run via commands over ethernet) and Bruker's
comment some years ago that Macs could therefore be used to run the instruments,
we remain optimistic that one day we will be able to ditch Windows and use our
favorite OS, MacOS (and its UNIX underpinnings) in our Mac-centric department
-- honestly, it makes lots of operations, including backups, publishing, etc.
so much simpler. We know that many other labs want the same!! [Yes, we do
remain very grateful and pleased that TopSpin processing runs so beautifully
under MacOS -- ALL our 'datastations' are therefore Mac-based].

So, the real survey response is...

2. Our Bruker systems use Windows installations

BUT we wish it weren't so!!!!

Best!

John R.

A new poll has been created:

I would like to gauge how prevalent Windows installations are becoming in the
Bruker landscape. Please feel free to also comment on reasons why you are
using Windows or Linux (if something other than legacy).

I have recently found a few significant bugs on our Bruker installations that
seem to be Linux specific. I'm curious if it is time to make the move to windows.
Perhaps software support in the more recent versions of Topspin is starting to favor Windows?

2. Our Bruker systems use Windows installations
3. We use a mix
