Thanks for the input coming in.

Hi Eugenio,

This is exactly what we are looking to do. We want to be able to create the
user login account in Ubuntu22 and then set up the user with an OpenVnmrJ
operational account that contains the most current system setup for 5 different
systems remotely. I have analyzed how OpenVnmrJ Admin sets everything
up but have not started to replicate it. We have computer people and students
that are going to make a tailored system for our NMR and about 15 other
instruments so we can use this one program to set up new users on equipment
they need to use.

If you could share scripts that you have created that would be a great help
to see how your have done it to make sure we are not missing anything.

Shawn

Shawn,

We use a couple of bash scripts to create identical user accounts in all our
computers in the lab. The first one is used to connect via ssh to all computers
in the lab to run the second script which creates a user using the parameters
passed along. We set up passwordless ssh so we only need to enter the password
once. These scripts are heavily tailored to our needs (not only they create
a linux and vnmr account but also the vnmr and desktop environments) but you
could use them as a model or modify them to make your own. I can send them
to you if you want them.

Has any attempted to replicate what the VnmrJ Admin program does?

We have 5 different NMR computers and would like to be able to add the same
user to each instrument computer without have to do it individually, so a
script that can ssh into each computer and perform the necessary file
manipulations and permission changes would be quite useful.

Don't want to reinvent the wheel if someone has done this.

Thanks,
Shawn
