I would like to thank you for your kind response, with special thanks to Marc
Horst, Simon Sham, Rick Fitch, Vernon Russell, Jeff Walton, Peter Thompson,
Martha Morton, Al Brown and K. Klika.
Here is a summary of the actions taken:
1. I purchased three 230L high-pressure liquid nitrogen tanks. Thank you,
Martha and Peter, for providing valuable consumption data.
2. One high-pressure LN2 tank supplied gas to a 400 with SampleCase and
BCU I (400 l/h), a 500 with BCU II (400 l/h), and a 500 with a helium-cooled
cryoprobe (800 l/h). The LN2 tank was swapped after two days. The T connection
idea was extremely helpful!
3. Another high-pressure LN2 tank supplied gas to a 600 with a SampleCase,
BCU I (535 l/h) and a prodigy probe throughout the entire shutdown period
(four days), with the tank still half-full at the end.
Thank you for suggesting the VT turnoff. I chose to keep the VT on to understand
LN2 consumption without any spectrometer setting changes for future reference,
which explains why the tank supplying three NMRs lasted only two days. If I had
an extra regulator, I would have used two separate LN2 Dewars to support these
three NMRs.
Here are my recommendation:
1. Both cryoprobes use nitrogen gas cylinders for backup pressure, so swapping
tanks doesn’t risk probe warm-up.
2. Before connecting to the NMR, ensure the LN2 tank pressure is sufficiently
built up. Check the pressure in the morning and afternoon to keep it at least
above 120 psi.
3. Keep in mind that the gauge reading may not be accurate. Check the remaining
LN2 by shaking the tank and swap it before the pressure drops.
4. Purchase an extra high-pressure liquid nitrogen tank as a backup

Hello All,
There will be a house nitrogen shutdown for 3 day in my building. To keep the
NMRs available for research, I am considering using high-pressure liquid
nitrogen tanks to supply three spectrometers with SampleCase: (1)NMR with
a IProbe and BCU I, (2) NMR with a Prodigy probe and BCU I, (3) NMR with a
Helium-cooled probe (no SampleCase).
Is this approach feasible? How many liquid nitrogen tank should I order?
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could share their experience or advice.
