There is one way to work around this problem:

1) create a image file of the data you want to backup in UNIX (file size
should be less than the max of the blank CD, 650MB(74min) or 700MB(80min)
if your cd burner supports overburn
2) transfer this image file to PC
3) burn the CD from the image file

I use 'mkisofs' (a sgi freeware) to make image file in SGI, and use
Adaptor easy CD creator to burn the cd in windows. Xwinnmr 2.6
running in SGI box reads the file in the burned CD just right (the file
name is the same as the original). Hope this help.
