I am comparing the following scenario between two systems, one of them an
Avance-II driven by Topspin 3.2 and the other a NEO driven by Topspin 4.5.0
Here are the steps :
* I rotate the sample (20 Hz).
* I run from TS command line : topshim tuneb
* Watch what happens.
Forgive me if I am adding the obvious, but just in case : the 'tuneb'
option is supposed to do a simple grid search optimization of these transverse
shims : X,Y,XZ and YZ. The 'tuneb' stands for 'before'. Then
Topshim optimizes the axial shims.
AV-II with TS3.2 : The rotation is stopped, transverse
shims are optimized, rotation is turned ON and then, Topshim of Axial
i.e. Z-shims happens. This is the ideal behavior.
NEO with TS4.5.0 : As seen from the BSMS status, the rotation is
NOT stopped, but the process attempts the transverse shimming (not of any use)
and then goes onto complete Axial shimming. Sure enough, when I
look at 'topshim report', I do not see anything of consequence reported
about the transverse shimming. By the way, the incantation topshim
tunea does not produce anything different. Here tunea stands for 'after' so
that Axial shimming is performed first and then transverse shimming is attempted.
Is this what you observe in your systems ? This has considerable practical
implication, especially when we try to run the system via IconNMR automation,
and when we want to get the best resolution by rotation, while avoiding invasive
sidebands.
