This is potentially serious. I've heard of this happening once (Ron Crouch
while still at Agilent) and it was only fixable because Agilent NMR people
could fix it. Ron told me long ago never to hit that power switch unless
absolutely necessary because one that the battery would be dead and it would
never come back up.
Hopefully Bert Heise will chime in with more promising information, but my
understanding is that this is how they die.
