Hi Luke,
there may be another possible solution (bit more drastic, but here you go):
In case the installation of the new NMR system isn't too far away anymore
you could also just quench the old magnet yourself - being unshielded it's
rather unlikely that it will find a new home (unless you do have such plans
for it of course). Quenching a magnet - specifically an older one which has
a readily accessible vacuum valve - is shockingly easy…
