We've had this issue with our 600 Mhz instrument, equipped with a SampleCase
and TCI Cryoprobe.
For the first 6 years, it worked great with the blue spinners, but I started
noticing that some of the samples weren't reaching the bottom all of the way,
since a previous deuterium signal that was very strong, looked very weak with
the next sample, despite sample conditions being the same (same solvent, same
brand and make of tube, similar samples).
I did find a work around, where I swapped out the blue 5mm spinners with the
white ones, which are a bit heavier, and those were properly dropping the
sample all the way into the bore.
Lately, though, sometimes the samples in the white spinners aren't reaching
the bottom of the bore, and get spit back up, dropped down, spat out, etc.
several times before either eventually it does settle into the bore, or it
just gets returned back to the SampleCase carousel.
Using the ceramic spinner works, but I figure it's probably time for a thorough
cleaning, since there's probably some gunk that's preventing the sample from
consistently seating in the bore.
