Hi Shawn,
I once received a tip from a now retired Varian/Agilent tech. If you have a
VNMRS system, the attenuator board in the console actually has an internal
mixer/combiner, which can take two inputs from a PTS/VFS i.e. 1H and 19F,
which it then feeds to a single high band amplifier output.
We have a 4 channel VNMRS, but it has a high/low/low/low power amplifier setup.
This would mean 1H/19F 2D experiments are not possible, were it not for this
internal combiner, routing both 1H and 19F to the highband amp channel. As we
were experimenting with homebuilt probes anyway, I decided to give a 1H/19F HMQC
a go, which miraculously just -worked-. If you are running a similar experiment,
like the HOESY, it might just route both nuclei to a single highband output,
since the system knows your second channel is only lowband.
You could also give it a go without connecting to the probe and checking the
output on the attenuator board directly with a scope, these are low power
signals (before going to the amp) so that should be fine.
Good luck!
Best,
