Hello, Stuart,

Thank you so much for your message. We're installing a QT system that is for
six magnets (2x700, 2x800, 850 and 1.1G). The 850 and 1.1G are pumped. From
your message "To prevent this from happening we fitted a toggle switch so
I can just move it to vent to atmosphere until the transfer/fill is done
then switch it back to capture." So for the unpumped magnets, this is not
necessary. Am I right?

Per Bruker's instruction that is given in the picture below, the Helium gas
line from the pump should connect to a 70mbar relief valve, then connect to
an Absorber and a 5mar check valve. Do you have the 70mbar and 5mbar valves?

Is your Helium gas from APD of BMPC collected?

Hey Chris,

We have one of Quantum Tech's bagless systems installed covering an 850, 700,
600, 2x 500 and 400 MHz spectrometers. The 850 is a pumped system and we were
concerned with over pressure of the smaller systems. Quantum-Tech worked with
us and configured their system where the lower boil-off magnets would feed
directly into the liquefier and therefore would not be affected by the higher
boil-off systems. The system has been up and running for a few years now and
works nicely. It's also nice that it's a bagless system so we do not have to
worry about impurities working their way in. We do still have a purifier because
we have another NMR core across campus that does collect using a bag. We're
all very protective of our systems and don't like to put them under undue stress
especially those that have been at field for 20+ years. For the 850 pumped system
what I have found is the BMPC does not like it when the helium plant recovery
pump is running during a transfer or a fill and does go into alarm and fires up
the second pump. To prevent this from happening we fitted a toggle switch so
I can just move it to vent to atmosphere until the transfer/fill is done then
switch it back to capture.

If you need any more info just let me know.

Dear Community,

I was wondering if there is anyone out there willing to share their experience
with the He-recovery systems like the one from Quantum Technologies (Picasso/ "All-metal")
---- or similar? --- which have the characteristic feature that they works without a
"balloon" to collect He. Instead, the He boil-off is directly purified and re-liquefied.
In case of high flow (eg. during fills), a compressor switches on and stores excess
flow to a medium pressure container for later recovery. The advantages are the smaller
space requirements and the helium reaching the purifier less contaminated.

But perhaps there are obvious downsides which I am not seeing, especially since this
solution does not seem to be widespread.

Best regards

Chris
