I just wanted to add a bit to Martha’s description. We also have a Quantum
Technology bag-less system, but it has not been started yet. We have housed
in the liquefier a small pump (GAST DAA-P501-EB), which is supposed to move
daily boil-off into the liquefier, while the large recovery compressor should
not run constantly, but instead mainly run during and just after helium fills
on the NMR magnets or when we are supplying gas from a cylinder for liquefaction.
Martha’s system, being an earlier make, does not have this small pump. It
seems that QT is still in the process of making design modifications/improvements
over time and may be treating each installation as custom.
