NMR Research Scientist (Ph.D.)

Job Description
DuPont's Corporate Center for Analytical Sciences in Wilmington, DE, is in search of an NMR Research Scientist. The successful candidate will join the team of NMR experts in working on critical technical solutions for DuPont. NMR applications involve a wide variety of sample types & conditions that are associated with disparate objectives (structure elucidation, kinetics & mechanism, dynamics, purity and end-group analysis). The successful candidate will engage with a broad customer base ranging from high-throughput NMR users to project teams and business liaisons.
Other key functions of this position:
* Adapt or develop novel NMR methods as needed for structure elucidation, notably for carbohydrates and bio-based macromolecules.
* Solve structure elucidation problems for small molecules, biological samples, polymers, and other materials.
* Conduct a wide variety of NMR experiments on organic solutions, biological samples, polymers and other materials using 1H, 19F, 13C, 31P and other NMR active nuclei, and a variety of instruments & software packages.
* Conduct variable temperature kinetic studies by NMR.
* Review and interpret data from NMR experiments, and communicate results to customers/research collaborators in a variety of written and oral formats
* Collaborate with individuals and project teams in R&D, Marketing, and Operations to identify and optimally address analytical needs.
* Handle calibrations and routine maintenance of NMR instruments.
* Provide guidance to high-throughput NMR lab operations and provide custom automation as required to maximize efficiency.
* Supervise and provide leadership for the work of one or more NMR Associate Scientists.
Job Qualifications
* PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent experience, with basic understanding of organic chemistry and macromolecular science.
* Demonstrated capability in NMR identification and structure characterization of small molecules, biological materials, constituents in mixtures, polymers and impurities.
* Five or more years of industrial NMR experience or equivalent related experience.
* Experience with walk-up NMR facilities is desirable.
* Broad knowledge of analytical chemistry and technologies.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Strong computer skills.
* Ability to work both independently and with teams. Excellent networking skills to support R&D, Marketing, and Operations.
* Demonstrated ability to build and lead a team to accomplish team goals.
