Dear All

on behalf of Prof. Nick Fitzkee I would like to post the following open positions.

Regards

Clemens

The Departments of Chemistry and Comparative Biomedical Sciences at Mississippi
State University are pleased to announce three full-time 12-month instrument
manager positions for their Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Mass Spectrometry
(MS) facilities.

Chemistry NMR Facility

The successful candidate will supervise the maintenance of assigned NMR
instrumentation in the Chemistry department, as well as the training of users.
Instruments include three existing NMR systems (300, 500, and 600 MHz) an 800 MHz
NMR currently being installed, a helium recovery system, and an X-band electron
paramagnetic resonance (EPR) system. The candidate will handle mail-in samples,
billing, and work with remote users as part of their responsibilities. The
successful candidate will also train students on basic NMR use, including a
one-credit introductory class for new graduate students, as assigned. The
successful candidate may be assigned to assist with managing other analytical
research instrumentation based on their interests and expertise.

Chemistry MS Facility

The successful candidate will supervise the maintenance and user training for
liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and gas chromatography-mass
spectrometry (GC-MS) instrumentation in the Chemistry department. This includes
a Bruker Q-TOF LC-MS system, an Agilent 1200 series single quadrupole LC-MS
system, an inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) system, and
several GC-MS systems. It also includes a new Q-TOF instrument to be acquired
in 2024 as part of an NSF Major Research Instrumentation project. The successful
candidate will also train students on basic mass spectrometry use, including a
one-credit introductory class for new graduate students, as assigned. The
successful candidate may be assigned to assist with managing other analytical
research instrumentation based on their interests and expertise.

Comparative Biomedical Sciences MS Facility

The applicant will support targeted/untargeted metabolomics and proteomics
efforts in the college. The instruments in the department include a Thermo
Quantis 240 quadrupole-orbitrap hybrid system and a TSQ Quantis triple quadrupole,
which are used to identify and quantify small molecules in biological systems.
Both systems are interfaced with UPLC inlets. Prior analytical experience with
LC-MS/MS is required, which could have been gained on triple quadrupoles, ion
traps, orbitraps, or TOF instruments in industry or academia. Prior experience
with software that enables chemical compound identification/annotation, such as
Compound Discoverer(TM) or LipidSearch(TM), would be beneficial but is not required.
