Re: [AMMRL] Mail errors when setting up ICON NMR email notifications/zip files

The solution we found for the Gmail encryption issue is to set up an interm=
ediate email sever in-between the local server on the spectrometer PC and t=
he University mail server. This relay mail sever adds the necessary securit=
y protocls to the emails before they hit the university gateway system. We'=
ve been able to send data to Gmail accounts easily (Which is key because so=
me of the firewalls around here refuse to allow messages with .zip attachem=
ents)

The syntax to modify postfix to get through the relay server can be found h=
ere: https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://serverfault.com/questions/147921/f=

I wish I could give more detail, but the whole thing was set up by someone
with more Linux-fu in their pinky finger than I have in my whole body...
but it can be done.

Seems I remember icon's mail functions needs a non-encrypted password for the
SMTP server connection. Gmail requires an encrypted password so Gmail never
worked for me either. I use a local SMTP server the University still runs
and allows non-encrypted passwords to freely flow over the internet (not
the best situation to have).

Related to zip files, they are usually pretty hard to send since they are
executable files. I can send jcamp dx all day long. We rely heavily upon
this feature. Otherwise, we have to use the archive to server function and
everyone has to map their machines to that particular server. While not
hard, you do have to set up the remote connection, which again requires
some fiddling on Linux machines.

Hi everyone,

Happy Friday! I have been attempting to configure IconNMR for email notifications
and zip file attachments, but no matter what I try I seem to get stuck. I have
generated a gmail account and followed their SMTP guidelines; I have also tried
on multiple WiFi networks and ethernet connections to see if it might be a
network restriction. I have included photos of the configurations, as well
as error messages here:

Thank you in advance!
