I have an old Varian VXR, and Nuts software on the PC. At present I have to copy spectral data to a 5 1/4" floppy (remember those!), change the format to something Nuts can use with V Helper from Steve Silber of Texas A&M, and then use Nuts on a different PC to look at the data. I'm trying to get around this headache by connecting the VXR to a PC via RS232 ports. I have the Varian software for the VXR but I'm still having trouble on the PC end. MS Hyperterminal didn't seem to work. I downloaded a copy of Unix for Windows and I'm looking at this avenue. I'd appreciate any experience or advice you or anyone else has in this area.
