As described in Ulrich’s mail- this problem is (nearly) always associated
with dirt on the contacts within the rectangular piston block- cleaning the
piston arm itself is unlikely to resolve the issue. If the 4 allen bolts
are remove from the end of the block it is possible to access and clean the
internal contacts as described. These touch on a (blue) rubberised ring that
is conductive (impregnated) and when compressed (by the upward or downward
motion of the piston) will complete the contact that indicates the motion
is complete. Dirt on the contacts and/or the rubberised ring can lead to the
upward/downward motion failed error. We used to keep a spool of the blue rubber
tubing so we could replace this periodically to resolve these issues, in
addition to cleaning. Too much grease on the piston can also cause grease to
accumulate on the rubber which can exacerbate the problem, so go easy on
the piston grease.
Good luck.
