Re: [AMMRL] rlogin to master1 varian

Hi Bert,

Yes, I did. I have no problem pinging the address. I also verified that the
ip address was also correct in the hosts file. The card appears to not be
able to make a rssh connection (or rlogin). I even tried a direct ethernet
connection to the computer.

I don't need that card, but I want to just see if I can get it working again.
I can install the boot.ini it just cannot communicate correctly.

Shawn

Hi Shawn,

did you check via null modem cable and the "shell" command whether all boot
parameters are correct (especially IP address of the board and wormhole)?
It is not enough to just have all files downloaded

Best regards
Bert

Thanks Alex and the other that responded privately.

I know how to reflash and load files and interface with the controller directly
either with rssh or by the serial cable. The private messages inform me that the
board is likely unfixable. I was hoping someone had unpublished information that
would help reset the board to allow for making a connection but all signs point
to a hardware failure.

For clarification, the board no longer accepts rssh connections as a result
I can download files from the tftpboot folder. Access via the serial cable is
fine but having the files on the board still does not make the board boot properly.

Hi Shawn,

Logging in to the master controller should be as simple as `rlogin master1`
in the terminal.
The last time I troubles like this I had to reflash the controller. Instructions
on how to do this are found, in OpenVnmrJ installations, in /vnmr/adm/acq/Controller_Reflashing.pdf.
It requires a null modem cable and a serial port on the flashing controller.
If you can’t find the file on your system I’m happy to send the pdf directly.

Someone else might have a less drastic solution to try first but we had good
success with this approach before on a DD system when we were trying to install
OVJ 3.1a. If you've got a VnmrJ installation I can't promise that this will behave
the same way; it might, I've just never tried it outside of OVJ.

Best,
Alex
