Dear Anjaneyulu Putta,

I have experienced shutting down three magnets (400 MHz Bruker, 200 MHz Bruker
and 300 MHz Oxford) with the help of a Bruker engineers. I would strongly
advise de-energizing in a controlled manner using proper equipment such as
diode with a large heatsink or even better with a dedicated power supply.
The shut down button on the Oxford magnet was quite tricky and the quench
was not really mild, the evaporated He caused a freezing of water inside
our heating/cooling system's radiator that in turn burst and flooded the
lab. Long story short please take care not only of the magnet but also the
surrounding and the ventilation.

As for the bench-top magnets we use Magritek’s Spinsolve 40 and 60
MHz magnets in the lab usually for liquid state 1H NMR but many more nuclei
are possible. They are robust and almost maintenance free devices. They
are used for reaction kinetics and basic structural checking, student training
and special applications with high pressure. Temperature equilibration is a
crucial step in the starting stage of the equipment, so I would advise
prolonged usage periods and not a switch on/off approach. Magritek is a
local company for us here in Aachen, Germany and I asked for an up to date
prices range. They replied with the following info.

“The pricing for the 80 MHz Spinsolve with the nuclei mentioned is
around 125k EUR (excl. VAT). It covers the full installation, the training,
the warranty, the software licenses, and the full support even for future
questions or method developments.

Since our NMR systems are very robust, there is actually no maintenance cost.
The only running cost is the NMR tubes and the solvents you use.”

I wish you all the best in your pursuit.

With kind regards,
Riza
