Job Description
The Chemistry Department of Missouri University of Science and Technology invites applications for a full time NMR Facility Manager position at the rank of staff scientist.
The successful candidate is expected to administer NMR research and teaching activities as well as manage the operation and maintenance of multiple NMR spectrometers.
The NMR facility currently includes a 400 MHz liquid-state Bruker AVANCE III HD, a 400 MHz wide-bore solid-state Bruker AVANCE III, and a 42.5 MHz Magritek Carbon Spinsolve benchtop spectrometer, and significant expansions are expected.
Solid-state NMR experience is not required; the Chemistry Department will sponsor opportunities for external professional development especially in solid-state NMR.
Responsibilities: (1) Manage the daily operation and maintenance of departmental NMR facilities and equipment, (2) train and advise faculty, postdocs and students in design and execution of conventional and advanced NMR experiments, assist in NMR data interpretation, and contribute to the NMR portions in manuscripts for publications, (3) plan, organize and direct the NMR components of research projects utilizing the departmental NMR facility, (4) assist in preparation of grant proposals for utilization, maintenance, upgrade and growth of the departmental NMR facility, (5) promote and encourage interdepartmental, multi-campus, and out of campus research and service programs in NMR
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a related/relevant areas and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
(1) A Master's degree in chemistry or related field with hands-on experience in NMR spectroscopy, (2) excellent verbal and written communication skills, (3) the demonstrated ability to work in a team toward common goals, (4) an expressed interest in the professional development toward solid-state NMR spectroscopy. (5) A Ph.D. in chemistry or related field with hands-on experience in NMR spectroscopy, (6) excellent verbal and written communication skills, (7) the demonstrated ability to work in a team toward common goals, (8) an expressed interest in the professional development toward solid-state NMR spectroscopy.
