Dear NMR community,

I am stunned about the passing of Bruce Adams. I think I have known Bruce =
for at least 25 years. I first met Bruce when he worked as an application
Scientist for Varian and took several courses with him then. In addition
to being a wonderful human being, Bruce was really one of the most gifted
NMR educators I have ever encountered. Bruce just had a way about him that
made me think I maybe could understand things like he could with topics like
PFG and shaped pulses. I was at Merck when Bruce joined the company and again,
I was privileged to learn from him. I eventually moved to Cambridge and again
I could interact with Bruce from time to time while he was at MIT. In
'retirement', Bruce was still having fun with shaped pulses and building his
own algorithms to predict shaped pulses and was still giving lectures, just
for the joy of it, to discuss these results to his interested friends at MIT
and the surrounding NMR community.

My prayers are with his dear family and friends as they grieve and mourn the
loss of our most excellent friend. I am so grateful to have been in his orbit
from time to time. Go in peace Bruce, your joyful countenance will be missed.

Dear colleagues,

We lost Bruce Adams yesterday; a friend to many of us, an outstanding colleague,
and a kind and thoughtful member of the NMR community. He died suddenly, and
although it was never his way to make a big deal about his own things, I’d
like him to be remembered both personally and for his contributions to the field.

Although no memorial service is currently planned, I’ve been tasked with
collecting stories and anecdotes about Bruce that you have so that they can be
shared with his family. Please send them to me at my MIT address
(wwm_at_mit.edu<mailto:wwm_at_mit.edu>).

Best,
Walt
