Just as an addendum...

I've spoken with some folks who are using liquid nitrogen cylinders as their
source of probe gas, where there's pretty much no moisture issues at all,
and you get very pure, dry N2 gas flowing through the chiller.

They all confirmed that having very high purity, very dry nitrogen gas, they
can get to 0 degrees C without any problems with a "regular" BCU-1, and
sustain it for a while.

We're running on compressed air that goes through a chiller / dryer at its
final stage, and then gets passed through a nitrogen separator before it's
fed into the probe. While it gets reasonably pure nitrogen (I can shim my
Avance III HD-850 to 3.8 / 7.6 with a half width of 0.45 Hz), there are still
some moisture issues that prevent us from being able to sustain that low of
a temperature, which is probably why our BCU-1 can only sustain 5 degre=
es C for that short time.
