Maybe it's just my unit, but the lowest I can our BCU-1 to sustain without
any warning messages is around 9 C. If I turn the chiller power to maximum,
then I can get it to stay at about 5 C for a short (one hour or so) time
period before I get the message of "insufficient cooling."
Bruker does offer a Smartcooler BCU-1 that does allow you to go down to -40
C, but that's a different unit than the "regular" BCU-1.
On another note, I've always been curious to see if a Cryoprobe could be used
as a cooling source for the sample chamber, since there's plenty of cooling
power with that system (you can run a nitrogen recovery unit with it).

Hello Everyone,
I have a question about the sample temperature range people have been able
to achieve/ use the BCU 1 chiller for.
I have a user who has not used the chiller in a few years and last worked with
the chiller prior to my time here. The user was wanting to know what were the
low end of sample temperature ranges we could realistically achieve with the
BCU 1 chiller? I know according to the manual the recommended range is from
0 C to Room Temp. When I tried to see if I could get the temp lower it seemed
to only be able to get a sample down to around -3 C. But the user insists that
it was the BCU 1 to achieve the lower temp. I am just looking for real-world
experience from users.
We do have a Cryo Diffusion CDL 27 that is not currently in use but had been
used in the past, but the user is insistent that the BCU 1 was the chiller
used for the temps he wants to achieve?
I am just wanting to get peoples experiences on what they could achieve with
the BCU1.
Sincerely,
Silas
