You may be right. I just spoke with Agilent and the technical support suggested
that as well. They are looking into the specifics to make sure… Fingers
crossed. The big surprise for me is that Agilent still has a technical support
team for NMR.

I believe that if the encoder references are yet to be lost, this calibration
can be saved, and the battery changed out without losing the calibrations.

I will reach out to Jonathan and likely NMR associates as well. I found both
the user manual and the installation manual which walks through the reset
procedure. Worryingly, the installation manual says I need to run Cal_PP
that is supplied on the Guidance Controller System Software CD…
