I have the same problem (with several users…)
You have to add the users to the same group as nmrsu is in.
Depending on the software version it is nmruser or swuser (NEO-X console)
Nevertheless you may have problems in iconnmr with permissions. I change the
permission for these files to “write and execute” for all
members of the group. If not iconnmr defines the owner as the first one
using it after expinstall and nobody else can use them.
And in some versions of topspin I have to delete the automatically generated
shimfiles generated during shimming (topsphim …) when a different
user starts to use iconnmr.

Hi all,
I’m looking for some guidance on user permissions and expinstall behavior
in TopSpin.
I have a group who is operating under their own Linux account on the instrument.
When they run utilities like expinstall from their account, it appears to break
several of our automation scripts—likely due to permission or compilation
issues. To resolve this, we currently have to rerun expinstall under our NMRSU
account and ensure everything compiles properly before the user can continue
working in their own account.
I was advised that adding the user to an “NmrSuperUser” group
would allow them to perform these actions without causing issues. However, this
group did not exist on our system, so I created it and added both the user and
the NMRSU account. Unfortunately, this has not resolved the problem.
Has anyone dealt with this before or can clarify how expinstall permissions
and compilation are supposed to be handled across multiple user accounts?
Is there a recommended way to configure shared environments or permissions
so that users can safely run these utilities without breaking system-wide
functionality?
