The magnet size, exhaust rate, duration of fill, dewar pressure, compressor
rate, and bag size would all need to be considered to best answer this question.
Also, have you only been doing boil-off? what is your pipe sizing?
When filling any of our magnets (Oxford and Bruker 500's, Bruker 400's) we
transfer 30L to 50L of liquid, in 20 to 30 minutes. Our magnets typically
exhaust at 10 to 12 SCFM, but our Bauer G20 can only pull from the gas bag
at 3.5 SCFM. Total SCF collected typically 300 to 600 SCF per fill, duration
of fill will obviously dictate total amount collected. We have a 900+ SCF
gas bag since our compressor is so slow and we can do multiple transfers
back to back.
Our bag has a distance sensor that triggers the compressor on and off based
on height of the bag. We use an ultrasonic sensor and an arduino for this.
It does have manual control too.
The size bag you are talking about ~300 to ~440 SCF, maybe a little risky
for the size fills you are talking about. If you have a compress with a great
rate then this may not matter. The medium pressure compressors are much faster
than the high pressure compressor we have. As you are saying you need to
really have a good idea of the numbers before you purchase anything. If you
do not currently track fill duration, liters used, etc you may want to do some
fills and track numbers to get a better idea about what your systems do.
