Hi Ken,
I'm with Bob on those papers. I have Chmurny's paper sitting beside our wide
bore for those days when I need to brush up on understanding which shims
need hit or to explain to a student why we do what we do.
I have two that gave me a more concrete understanding of echoes:
Hahn's paper in Physical Review (1950, 80, 580-594) on spin echoes is a
fantastic paper on how the echo evolves. Solomon's manuscript for echoes in
solids in Physical Review (1958, 110, 61-65) allowed me to understand the
parameters in our pulse programs more fully to get better data and understand
where it was coming from.
I think for VT in solid state that Hook's paper in MRC (Mag Res Chem, 1995,
33, 791-795) is a good paper on calibrating temperature linearity for VT work.
I've come back to that a few times for checking temperature profiles when there
were questionable results on some experiments.
Best wishes,
Nick
