Hi Ken,
I had that same question within the past few years. From what I recall IUD's
typically use non-magnetic materials such as synthetic polymers and copper.
In general terms, they're safe for MRI testing in hospitals and should be
fine walking around (most) NMR labs. However, I commonly find that people
with all types of surgical implants simply do not know, or have misplaced,
the specific material details needed to make the judgement. Whenever in
doubt, I provide the individual with information on the magnets and have
them consult with a physician before clearing them to work independently.

The question has come up recently in our facility if there is any concern
for users of NMRs with IUD's. We have one older Oxford magnet that is the
only one with a significant fringe field.
My limited 'research' indicates that most IUDs are safe for MRIs with the
exception of stainless-steel IUD's.
Does anyone have any further information specific to NMR use?
