There was a known bug with some versions of the amplifier firmware that can be
resolved by updating the bootloader. Normally it just causes a complete
communication failure but in some cases it has caused other weird is sues.
I'm not sure if we've ever resolved an FPGA error by updating the bootloader but
it's one of the first things that I would try. If you've tried to update
the firmware manually, does that mean that you can access the amplifier service
webpage?
If you can communicate with the spectrometer you might see about setting up a
remote connection with the developers. We've done this a few times in
the US and they have been able to connect remotely and either repair or better
diagnose what's going on. You might ask your local service people about
that possibility. If it is just a weird software issue then they have
better tools than I do and might be able to get you up and running.
Speaking of that--all you people with NEO spectrometers that aren't nanobays
should check your amplifier firmwares. Use the command ha in topspin and
click the open button corresponding to the amplifier(s). Look for the
"application version" and if the date code on that is older than 20201119
(date in yyyymmdd format) then you should update to avoid having your amplifier
temporarily bricking itself. This is something that is included in newer
versions of topspin so if you're reluctant to update, this may be an extra
incentive to do so.
