Hi Ken
First let me say we own our dewars since we have helium recovery and we wanted
a quick way to connect to the dewar vent port. We do a lot of transfers from
the liquifier to the dewars and then from dewars to magnets, at least one of
these events a week if not 2.
We put a 1/2 inch NPT nipple in the 1/2 inch ball valve of the main vent and
put a 1/2 inch NPT to KF-25 adapter on it (pic Dewar_vent_port). This allows
us to quickly attach the dewars to the helium recovery system for filling or
to add the valve assembly for doing magnet fills.
The valve assembly (pic valve_assembly) is all 1/2 inch NPT fittings and ball
valves, a KF-25 adapter and a push-to-connect fitting for 1/4 inch tube. We
use the old style rotameter and 0-3 PSI gauge assembly that many people are
familiar with (pic flow_assembly). This connects to the high pressure helium
tank like normal via 1/4 inch push-to-connect, and the out flow is also 1/4
inch push-to-connect that then connects to the valve assembly. The valve assembly
lets us close off this flow, vent the dewar. There is a pic (In_operation) of
everything on a dewar. When we purchase/rent a dewar for fills we do add a
nipple and KF-25 adapter to the vent port of these dewars while in our
possession and remove it when it is returned.
