This is pretty tangential but since this is in the spirit of Linux
distros vis-a-vis Topspin, I thought I will leave it as a foot print on
the sand, in case anyone is curious.
I keep monkeying with the bleeding edge versions of Fedora and get some
self-inflicted wounds in the process while trying to make Topspin versions
work on them. I type this from my Fedora 38 box (Fedora 39 is released
recently, haven't taken the bait yet !). With the patches I applied
yesterday, I tried installing Topspin 4.2.0 today. The rpm for
'openssl11-libs' is not available in the native repository but
notwithstanding that, I am able to launch TS4.2.0 and the GUI is behaving
itself ! That's a great relief.
Just for running Topspin, I resort to running a virtual machine distro
such as CentOS 7 or Alma 9 of late, but with kind of memory allocations I
can make, the speed is not that great and it does freeze up occasionally.
Being able to run the Topspin natively is a great relief and a smooth
experience indeed !
