Hi folks,

I saw this error when updating a Bruker-supplied GP Z4 G4 from Windows 10 to
11, and appear to stem from some Intel network drivers that are no longer
supported on Windows 11.

I tried a bunch of more obvious things, but in the end the "solution" was to
remove the application "Intel Network Connections Drivers", where you will
briefly lose internet connectivity only to get it back straight away, but
will then break the spectrometer connection. This seems to be because it
reverts the network configurations of secondary connections (i.e. spectrometer)
to automatic DHCP assignment, rather than the manual ones we use for spectrometer.
The IP is still the same, but the subnet mask changes.

At some point during the troubleshooting process I reinstalled the W11 version
of the drivers
(https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/727998/intel-network-adapter-driver-for-microsoft-windows-11.html)
but I'm not even sure if that's actually required, or whether W11 is automatically
loading a reasonable driver in the background for you.

If anyone has a cleaner method I'd listen to them first, but if it annoys you
enough to want to fix it, here's the process:

Here's what your ipconfig should look like:

Removing Intel Network Connections Drivers helpfully renames your network connections:

...and reverts the network settings to automatic DHCP ones too (sorry - no ipconfig
screenshots of this one)

The solution is to set it right back to what it needs to be, and for me in
February 2025, this was through the "old"-style menus:

Attempts to set it through the W11-style menus did not work for me, but perhaps
MS have fixed those things by now?

Thanks

Geoff

Hi,

We have TopSpin 4.4 running in Alma Linux 9.x and we have also noticed the
same kind of problem that you described, where IconNMR freezes and doesn't
allow to change anything in the queue. You can login and logout of Icon, but
nothing else. So I don't think this is related to your broken Windows driver.
In linux, I use xkill to kill IconNMR, but I have been wandering if there is
a solution or a better way to deal with this problem. I would also like to
know what is the cause of this problem.

Hi all,

We have had a recent Windows 10 -> 11 update that has broken a driver. A quick
google indicates that this is an old issue that we have just discovered. The
driver is the iqvw64e.sys and it appears to have something to do with networking.

I am just wondering if anyone knows if this will affect Topspin/IconNMR. We
have recently had some weird freezes of IconNMR where the queue is still
running but the interface won't let us enter in any new experiments and does
not respond to clicks either. Our solution has been to exit Topspin and restart
IconNMR. We usually let the queue finish off its work before doing so.

I was wondering if anybody had insight as to whether this driver could be the
problem, and if there is a workaround if it is indeed the problem. This is
the sole "new" issue that we can point a finger at so far.

Another possibility is that a user occasionally puts an entry that contains=
a space in the "Name" field. We know that this messes with some archiving
operations, but wondered if this could be part of the problem. This is HARDLY
a new issue, however, so we don't think it is likely the root of our freezing
problem.

I am currently in the process of scouring logs to see if I can find some pattern,
but I thought I would ask the collective mind if someone has an idea.

Best,

Andy
