Hi,

Just a mini-chip in: “add attenuators between pulse generator and amplifier”
was always the go-to method in Varian spectrometers to limit the maximum power at maximum
setting while getting enough power out to meet pw90 specs…

Cheers

Hi Sameer,

I'll be interested to see if anybody's got a good solution for this.
I have a couple of possible solutions but they're kind of crude.  If you want to limit the
pulse power for a specific nucleus, if it's not one of the nuclei that's included in the PICS
file then you can just set it to whatever you want in edprobe.  If you did want to edit one of
the nuclei in the PICS file for that specific probe then eitherI or one of my colleagues could probably
generate a custom PICS file for you that would have the power limit you wanted and you could load that
file to the probe and that would be the permanent power limit for that probe (until you decided you
wanted to change back and loaded the original file backon.)

There are probably some other more klugey ways to do this--you might be able to change the maximum
power set in the cortab file for that nucleus accordingly.  Or you could put an attenuator between
the SGU and amplifier that would decrease the maximum size of the signal that goes from the SGU to the
amp and thereby limit the maximum power you'll get out of that channel.

Anyway, I'll be interested to see if somebody's got a more elegant solution to this.

Cheers,
Mike
