Hello, Ulli,
We have metal walls (steel sheeting) in one of our NMR Labs, and they have
proved to be no problem at all. We further have steel frames for our ceiling
tiles; again, no problems.
You have not mentioned where your 5-gauss lines are located, but in shielded
magnets, any chance of a problem is greatly reduced.

> Subject: [AMMRL] AMMRL: building of structural steel
Dear Colleagues,
Dalhousie is planning a new building, which will also house the NMR facility.
We just learned that a changed plan is to build the new building using
structural steel (not concrete), and the question was raised, whether this
will be a problem for the NMR operation.
While this may not be ideal, we likely have no choice in this matter, but I
would appreciate any experiences or advice you can give me. (I couldn't find
anything in the archives). The magnets can be moved sufficiently inside the
room so that their 5 Gauss lines can be kept away from the walls. My feeling
is as long as we stay sufficiently far away, we should be fine. Do you agree?
Happy resonating,
Ulli
