Hi Ulli,
I agree that as long as you stay sufficiently far away, you should be fine.
Normally big static things such as structural members aren't as big
a problem as big mobile things like elevators. Even if you can't get
to an ideal solution, usually you can figure out a good enough configuration
to make things work right. And cryoshims can usually be adjusted to
compensate for things like that as well.
Cheers,Mike

Dear Colleagues,
Dalhousie is planning a new building, which will also house the NMR facili=

structural steel (not concrete), and the question was raised, whether this
will be a problem for the NMR operation.
While this may not be ideal, we likely have no choice in this matter, but
I would appreciate any experiences or advice you can give me. (I couldn't
find anything in the archives). The magnets can be moved sufficiently inside
the room so that their 5 Gauss lines can be kept away from the walls. My
feeling is as long as we stay sufficiently far away, we should be fine. Do
you agree?
Happy resonating,
Ulli
