Re: [AMMRL] AMMRL: Tubing for LN2 fill exhaust

As a Bruker, I STRONGLY recommend exhaust tubing on the N2 outlet.  If
that's what you're talking about.  I know of AT LEAST one person whose
magnet would have quenched if they hadn't been using tubing on the exhaust.
Something about the fill wasn't quite right and the exhaust tubing routed the
nitrogen to the wall instead of down the side of the magnet.

If you're just talking about tubing that is normally installed on the ports
to route the boil-off away from the magnet and keep ice from getting in,
yeah, you're right--we haven't done that for a long time.  The current
heat exchanger setup is safer and should prevent air from getting sucked in,
while if you've just got tubing on the exhaust ports you don't have that
protection.

Cheers,Mike

Natural rubber tubing, internal diameter 3/8", wall thickness 1/8", outer
diameter 9/16".

I think I've asked this before so forgive me, but I always end up with tubing
that too stiff, too soft, wrong size...

I think I just want ½" latex tubing but can anyone pass along what they
are using?  We have a variety of Oxford, Agilent, Magritek and Bruker
magnets, but they all take the same size tubing.
