Hi all,
I recently wrapped up replacing old CentOS hosts with new Alma PCs.
Went smoothly thanks to all the posts here from others about the various
hurdles. Both of those instruments are setup where everyone has a local
system account and getting accounts on the new PCs was straight forward.
My remaining instrument in pretty much exclusively walk-up ICON usage.
I am dreading this change since it is so many users, all setup within ICON
and not local system accounts, and the instrument is normally used more-or-less
all day everyday. I have put off doing anything with this workhorse for
so long it is actually still embarrassingly running CentOS 5, but it is finally
time. I have had the new Alma PC on my desk for months ready to go and
have just dragged my feet changing it out.
Any advice/experiences/thoughts about replacing a workhorse ICON PC with a
little downtime as possible? One of my biggest concerns is passwords
and not having to coordinate meeting 60 users in the lab to get their
passwords setup.
Thanks everyone and happy holidays.
Regards,
David
