Hi Todd,
We are in a similar situation where part of our NMR room is currently empty
and will be receiving two new cryo-EMs in the “near” future. Potential
suppliers have extensively investigated the room, and despite acceptable
site survey results obtained for the first cryo-EM, which will be closest to
our NMR spectrometers, we have decided to install an active magnetic field
canceller system around this cryo-EM. The microscope column will be
approximately 8 meters away from an (old) unshielded 600 MHz Oxford magnet.
Since a stray magnetic field was measured at that distance (~50 µT), the
magnetic field cancellation system will provide us with peace of mind.
