Re: [AMMRL] Stuck sample is BST with SampleMail in the way

Everyone,

I appreciate the suggestions. Unfortunately, I neglected to mention that it
is indeed a Prodigy probe so I would much prefer not to drop the probe to
push up from the bottom.

I may insert something to see if I can loosen it and go for another eject.

I have no idea why/how it got stuck, so I'm uncertain what I'm dealing with
which is why I feel like removing the BST is the best option.

Hi Ken,

If the setup is at all similar to mine then I think the only way to remove
the bst would be partially dismantling the Mail System, at least enough to
achieve full vertical clearance over the bst. Crucial keyword being carefully.
The engineer that installed my SampleCase stressed that the alignment is
critical for smooth motion. I assume keeping the arm clean from grit during
any handling would also be important. If you choose to attempt it I'd recommend
leaving the supportive scaffolding untouched as much as possible, hopefully
you can reassemble everything in the exact positions they started in.
Picture attached for everyone else's benefit.

Potentially less extreme alternatives. Depends on how stuck the sample is.
YMMV.

1) ‎Connect a nitrogen gas source to the bst lift gas port. Slowly
increase the pressure to raise the sample. Will let you bypass TopSpin error
messages preventing gas flow. Would not recommend if the mobile sample transport
component is positioned directly over the bst. Would recommend having a second
person ready to catch the sample in case it suddenly looses and launches out
like a bottle rocket.
2) Drop probe and try to dislodge the sample from the bottom. Time consuming
if it's a cryoprobe. Exact position in bst may demand some creativity for
whatever non-magnetic object you send up to fish the sample out.

Kind regards,
Luke

I have a sample that seems to be stuck in the BST. I can't remove the BST
without moving the SampleMail portion of the SampleCase. Unfortunately, I
think I skipped class when they went over this....

How do you remove the BST when you have a Sample Case/Mail system in place?

Thanks,
