I made this turbo pump station out of parts from a decommissioned cryoplatform
and used it until I had money to buy a new one from Edward's. Guages say
that they both pull roughly the same!

On the principle that is rarely worth it to break a good vacuum, I would only
pump down a line once I have evidence that the outer jacket is cooling down
during the fill.
When I came to my current facility one of the transfer lines was very soft,
to the point where it simply would not cool down; this was not a cryofab line
so I had to by the manual actuator from a different company (the overall
design is the same as the unit Todd showed -- there is just a difference
at the attachment point, which may be a hex nut, KF, or something else
depending on manufacturer).
When this was happening it happened to be at the same time we were getting
a magnet install, so the technician was kind enough to give us an overnight
pull from his turbo. What kind of vacuum equipment and protocols are others
using for this task? Is everyone just using a standard vacuum pump? Has anyone
had experience wrapping the line in a heating mantle?
