AMMRL: sample changer

Hello,

We have a Bruker AV-400 with a carousel-type sample changer ( “NMR Case”).
The sample changer is useful but a tad temperamental, and recently it
developed the following symptoms. When a sample is placed in the carousel
for insertion into the magnet and an automation sequence is started, the
carousel turns and the sample drops A-O-K. Come time for ejection, the
sample comes up but the carousel doesn’t turn, and when the air shuts off
the sample drops back into the magnet. I’ve cleaned the bearing surfaces;
the settings of the valves in the manifold have little effect and they’re
almost all the way open. In the motion-controller box, there are some LEDs
that are supposed to light in the sequence 1-3-2-0. When “0” lights the
carousel turns, and when “0” doesn’t light the carousel doesn’t turn.

Phone discussion with Bruker led to a diagnosis that the problem is either
the valve on the NMR Case or a sensor issue in the motion controller, and
a quote for parts. My boss, who’s prone to sticker shock :-), asked me to
ask this group the following: (1) has anyone had similar symptoms; and (2)
what caused them?
