Hey,
That's a very familiar problem. At some point half of our guys in the
lab developed the skill to resolder a broken wire to the connector in a
couple of minutes.
Finally someone here had the idea of suspending the VT cable with a rope
that is hanging from the magnet rim. That way the connector does not
carry the whole weight of the cable, most of the strain is held by the
suspending rope. We have not had a single connector breakdown since.
