Sorry for the late summary.
Essentially, my samples were failing to unload properly and getting stuck at
the top of the transport tube. What turned out to be the problem was the
transport rail (from the tube to the bore) needed to be lubricated. This is
mandatory maintenance every 6-12 months., which I had not done for two years.
I have noted that when properly lubricated, the shuttle takes about 3 seconds
to move from the bore to the transport tube. Mine took close to 10 seconds.
There appears to be some delay period after which the transport tube opens
the sample will drop. My samples where 'almost' getting there in time so that
every once in a while, they would drop before completely over the hole and
get stuck at the top.
The recommended lubricant is non-silicone based (I would be interested to know why).
