Sounds like you've done a pretty thorough job.  Could there be a valve
on the EPR or MCD that's leaking while that equipment isn't connected? 
Seems like if it was left open all the way you'd get a bunch of air in the
system but maybe it's not sealing properly when closed?  Have you opened
up the compressor?  There are probably a couple of connections in there
as well--you might see if the compressor is leaking internally.
